Thursday, This Day Forward, Murder By Death, Every Time I Die
The Higherground, Burlington, VT

Every Time I Die was the opener for this tour, which I found odd, because they are more popular than Murder By Death as far as I know. Oh well, it was better to start the show off with an Every Time I Die bang. Their grooviness combined with the technicality and heaviness is what I think sets this band apart. Murder By Death came next, and they are some high quality music. Despite some audio problems, they had a rather mezmerizing set. It's some truly engrossing sound they make, and they prove that the cello is cool. Their best song was without
any doubt "Those Who Left"; that song makes such a dark atmosphere, and the energy coming off of them was great.
This Day Forward followed afterward, and at times they were merely "meh", and at others they were very good. It depended on the song. Like I predicted, they performed "Sunfalls and Watershine" at the end, which I was excited about. But right at the point where Geoff Rickly should have done his guest vocals, he didn't! That bummed me, but it was still a really good song. Thurday's set up could have been described in one word: LONG. I think that was the longest I ever waited for a band to set up. Also, Andrew and Tucker were the only band
members to prepare their own equipment; roadies did the rest. Very odd. When they finally came on, they started off with the new song "For The Workforce. Drowning.", a very nice little tune. They were the highlight of the show for me, and one of the best bands I've seen yet. Their music just connects with me really well, and they play with some great energy. They played some songs that are coming on "War All The Time", and judging from them, that should be quite an album. Two complaints come from me though; the crowd was all about push pitting during Thursday's set, and I didn't get a chance to sing into (or close to) the mic, which I was looking forward to. Ah shoot.
All in all, it was a great show, just more push pitting than there should have been. The club, despite its restrictions on stagediving and crowd surfing, was a good one, and had the greatest idea ever: free water ala a fountain and a water cooler. WHY DOES NO ONE ELSE DO THIS!!! Clubs always rip you off for something like $4 for a bottle of water or some shit. Higherground deserves major props for that. So it was a fun fun night. Good music, my friends in Die Like A Champion met a guy they may book a show with, and they also pissed off the pit ninjas. Happy happy joy joy, fuckers.
