Have Heart, Learn, The Twilight of Idols

At first, I was a little worried about the show starting so late because I had my first day of class the next morning. But, it turns out only 3 bands were playing, so it still got over pretty early. Local Atlanta boys, The Twilight of Idols, opened with Learn and Have Heart closing it out. Everybody played well and it was a good time.

Since it was a Sunday show with only one "big" band, the audience wasn't the biggest I've seen. But, there was a good amount of kids and everybody was there to have fun. The Twilight of Idols opened things up with their melodic, technical metalcore. The band is largely based upon long, technical melodies and you could tell they were very passionate about what they were playing. The vocalist has toned down all the preaching between songs since the last time I saw them, and that was a plus. The band is an atheist and vegan band, which is all well and good. But, I'm not a show to be preached to. So, his chilling out was a good thing.

Up next were Learn. I had listened to a few songs from Learn prior to the show and liked what I heard. It seems Verse, Have Heart, and Learn are all friends and all have some similarities. I like all these bands and Learn was no exception. They put on a great show with the singer losing a fingernail during the first song. They ripped through the songs on their 7", which I picked up before they played, and a cover that I didn't recognize. The band was full of energy and set things up for Have Heart.

Have Heart finally took the stage, and the crowd came out of its shell with two-stepping, crowd surfing, and pile-ons becoming very abundant. The singer was probably one of the most passionate guys I've seen. The way he talked between songs and his performance just showed how much he put into his music. They played all the songs from the What Counts 7" and some from their demo 7". Have Heart put on a hell of a show and made up for the lack of bands on the bill. I would really recommend seeing them, soon.
