The full line-up for this show was: The Crime Scene, The Banner, The Red Death, Cannae, Since The Flood, Hoods, and Embrace Today. Yes, that is seven bands on one bill. It was a good show, though.
Up first was the local Atlanta band, The Crime Scene. The Crime Scene strongly resembles old-school tough-guy bands, namely Madball. I've heard these guys plenty, as they're one of the bigger Atlanta bands, and was excited to see them. They put on a very energetic show; all seven of them. That's right. They have 3 vocalists, making seven members in total. They plowed through a few originals and a cover of Bulldoze's "Beatdown."
The Banner took the stage next. I had heard a few recorded songs from the band and was a bit on the fence about them. While I dig the faster parts and the whole horror theme they have going, there are still some aspects that turn me off. Seeing them live didn't really sway me either way, but they put on a decent show. The attendance at this show wasn't that great and it was at the biggest venue around. So, the crowd reaction was minimal, but The Banner chugged on anyway.
Up next were two bands I was completely unfamiliar with: The Red Death and Cannae. The Red Death were pretty impressive with their fast brand of technically proficient metal. The musicianship was fantastic, but tech metal was not what I was there to see. So, while the band's music and vocals were highly skilled and precise, the performance lacked a tad. Cannae had tons of energy and the vocalist was quite a performer. The band's style of metal wasn't exactly great, but they put their heart into it. While neither of these bands inspired me to buy anything, I will most likely check out The Red Death when I'm in the mood for some metal.
Since The Flood had to keep their set short due to having a replacement bassist. The six songs they played were full of energy and really brought out what crowd there was. The band's sheer energy and passion were very present and they played a great set. I would definitely recommend seeing this band live over listening to their album, Valor And Vengeance.
Taking the stage next was the Hoods. These guys and girl played a super energetic set full of fun times. The band ran through roughly seven or eight songs and packed as much energy as they could into them. Microphone-sharing, chanting, and pillow fighting all ensued. The singer threw pillows out as soon as he took the stage and asked, "Who wants to pillow fight?" The band played a great set, including the crowd favorite, "I Own You."
Headliners Embrace Today were up next. The band took the stage fully X'ed up and ready to go. The band played a mix of older material and songs from their new album, We Are The Enemy. The singer shouted out to all the bands and seemed like a really sincere dude. They closed out their great set with a cover of the straight edge anthem "Firestorm" by Earth Crisis.
While the show ran a little long and featured too many bands I was unfamiliar with, it was an overall great time. Since The Flood and Hoods were two of the most energetic bands I've ever seen. Key merchandise pickups include: Hoods shirt with an AK-47 pictured and text that reads "emo killaz," Embrace Today "DRUG FREE" belt, and Embrace Today mesh shorts.
