Pulling Teeth writes some seriously sizzling and concise metallic hardcore, and it's bound to satiate the appetites of all sorts of listeners. The band's newest offering, the 14-minute Vicious Skin, is fast and pissed-off enough to appeal to the traditional hardcore crowd, heavy and crunchy enough to incite violence, and flashy enough to draw in thrash connoiseurs. Best of all, it all sounds natural.

Aside from a sludgy, slow introduction, Vicious Skin is downright intense. Whether Pulling Teeth is focusing on ultra-fast guitar leads and thrash riffs or metallic grooves and straightforward chord progressions, the record hits with force and barreling energy. That fact is only intensified by the band's quick and precise maneuvers, which rarely give listeners a reasonable chance to stop and breathe. While the consistent beating is tiring, Pulling Teeth keeps the songs really concise. Each one is like a good, proportioned meal, leaving listeners satisfied and, when it's time again (when the album finishes), ready for more.

Right up their with their Chainsaw Safety label mates The End of the Universe and Cobra Noir, Pulling Teeth is a relatively young act that, given the time and the right resources, could really bust out on a wide scale. The band's already got the attitude, the energy and a unique, metallic hardcore sound that's not polarizing (as in, traditional hardcore and metallic hardcore fans could both dig this). People just need to know about it.
