I knew that It Dies Today would release something good after listening to their three-song demo time and time again,
but what I hadn't expected was such musical progression and even more brutality. "Forever Scorned" is a journey into the deep realms of melodic, yet vicious metal, that will put It Dies Today on the map. With their music finally reaching larger distributors, it shouldn't be long before It Dies Today is one of those names you associate with a genre.
The most noticable progression that It Dies Today has undergone since the days of their demo is the shift towards a more metallic sound. While the music on "Forever Scorned" isn't extremely different than the band's previous work, us listeners are treated to guitar work that is more reminiscent of European metal bands, along with more painful growls and plenty of double kicks to the bass drum. For fans of breakdowns; don't fret. This album competes with Unearth's "Endless" EP, and if nothing else, that means this album will bring the mosh.
The instruments sound tighter than ever before, with speedy guitar work that doesn't lag behind the impressive percussion performance, all accompanied by vocalist Nick's powerful screams. "Forever Scorned" may sound painfully brutal at times, but the vocal work, combined with rolling bass lines and complex guitar parts, makes for some very melodic moments, that are just irresistable. To top off the excellent musicianship and song structure is another great recording quality, that really works to excentuate the vocals, and maintain a huge sound.
I can't ask for anything more from It Dies Today (except more music, please), and for a band's first release, "Forever Scorned" is all the more impressive. This band is bubbling with talent, and it is safe to say that It Dies Today will have a future of success. This is awesome music, and you'd be a fool to pass it up.
