From the very first listen I gave to It Dies Today, I knew that they were something special. After downloading one of their tracks from mp3.com, I instantly looked further into the band to find that they only had available a demo CD. I was hoping to find a solid full length or EP, but even though "Let The Angels Whisper Your Name" is only three songs over 13 minutes, it was well worth the four dollars paid. After listening to this, I can only hope that this band goes on to produce a more lengthy album, because this music has definitely made me itch for more, to say the least.

It Dies Today plays a brand of brutal, heavy metalcore. To give the best description of this band, I'd tend to draw comparisons to bands like Until The End, but with a little less speed and more variety. The guitars are more technical than those of Until The End, and It Dies Today incorporates some melodic vocal passages to add some variety. Most of the time, however, the vocal attack is very brutal and deep, like those of Until The End. The band keeps the pace pretty fast, but does not fail to slow things down and throw in some of the most crushing breakdowns I have ever heard. The lyrics are as violent and graphic as I need, and express a lot of anger and emotion. Similar to lyrics from Remembering Never and Until The End, vocalist Nick screams "You hold the dagger / only you / plunge it deep within me / give me solace / let the angels whisper your name," allowing some extreme emotion to be released through his words.

The sheer ability of this band to build a song over its duration is astounding. The first track, "Blood Stained Bedsheet Burden," is a perfect example of this talent. This song reaches its climax only after incorporating some melodic singing and a short passage of spoken words. This breakdown is probably the single most memorable moment of this demo, and quite possibly my favorite moment in all of the music I've ever experienced. Vocalist Nick screams "I will, watch you burn!" over some of the crunchiest, yet cleanest guitars that I've heard, along with masterful drumming and bass that makes the sound thicker than molasses. The following two tracks, "The Heart String Fallacy" and "The Last Face She'll Ever See," are just as astounding as the first song, and carry the same gigantic emotional package and amazing musicianship.

Three songs. It only took It Dies Today 13 minutes to impress the living hell out of me, and my god, if this is an indication of what could come from this band, then give me some drugs to calm my excitement (prescription drugs, please). The raw, brutal emotion that is expressed in this music is honestly amazing, and its something that I have never felt so affected by, coming from another band. The recording is of a very high caliber, and the way these songs are built will never cease to impress me. Please, do yourself a favor and check this band out (through mp3.com or their homepage, http://www.itdiestoday.u4l.com). If nothing else, read the lyrics and feel the pain of the vocalist, but I can guarantee that any fans of metal/hardcore will be jumping out of their seat when they hear It Dies Today.
